Vicky Pellowe named a WA nominee for Australia’s Local Hero 2027
The FIFO Family Project founder, Vicky Pellowe, has been named a Western Australian nominee for Australia’s Local Hero in the 2027 Australian of the Year Awards.
Our Founder and Executive Director, Vicky Pellowe, is one of four 2027 Australia’s Local Hero nominees for Western Australia.
The National Australia Day Council announced the 16 WA nominees for the 2027 Australian of the Year Awards on 16 October. Vicky is recognised for her work with fly-in fly-out (FIFO) families through The FIFO Family Project.
Since May 2024, that work has brought more than 2,000 FIFO family members together at over 50 community meet-ups and events across Perth. Vicky’s FIFO New Parents Guide, Australia’s first, is now used by the WA Country Health Service Child, Youth & Family team, including in rural and remote communities.
Vicky’s name is on the nomination. The work behind it belongs to every FIFO family who has come to a meet-up, shared their experiences or passed the Guide on to someone who needed it.
The WA recipients will be announced on Friday 30 October 2026 in Perth, with the ceremony livestreamed at australianoftheyear.org.au. They then become finalists for the national awards, announced in Canberra on 25 January 2027.
Congratulations to fellow Local Hero nominees Adam Desmond, Michael Elwan and Dr Dayna Pool, and to all 16 WA nominees.
Date: 18 October 2026
